No confidence vote expected for Garda Commissioner today

No confidence vote expected for Garda Commissioner today

The decision is expected to be announced later today

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris is expected to receive an overwhelming vote of no confidence later today.

It's understood that over 80% of members in the rank and file Gardaí responded "no" to the question "Do you have confidence in the Garda Commissioner", posed by The Garda Representative Association (GRA).

The poll came following the Garda Commissioners decision to reintroduce a pre-pandemic working roster, which would require Gardaí to work six days in a row, has been blasted as "the last straw" and "lacking logic".

Other issues include problems with recruitment, suspensions, retention and low morale, something the commissioner refuses to accept, according to the GRA.

Commissioner Harris has insisted he will not resign regardless of the outcome while Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has expressed confidence in his leadership.

The decision is expected to be announced later today.
