Woman in 50s dies after two-car crash in Leitrim

A woman has died after a crash in Co Leitrim.

The two-car smash happened just before 6pm on Thursday on the R280 at Lisnabrack, Carrick-on-Shannon.

The woman, in her 50s and a passenger in one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of both cars were taken to Sligo University Hospital for treatment and assessment.

Their injuries are not life threatening.

A technical examination of the scene will be carried out by forensic investigators and the road at the crash site remained shut on Friday morning, with local traffic diversions in place.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who saw the collision to contact them.
