A large amount of baby formula recalled due to the possible presence of illness-causing bacteria has already been sold by Irish pharmacies.
That's according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), which yesterday (December 4) confirmed their awareness that the majority of implicated Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition's Nutramigen LGG Stage 1 & 2 batches have been bought.
Parents and care givers are being warned not to make up the affected products for infant or adult consumption due to the potential presence of Cronobacter Sakazakii.
Cronobacter Sakazakii infections are rare but they can be serious for babies younger than 2 months or babies born prematurely or immunocompromised; illness usually starts with a fever and poor feeding, excessive crying, or very low energy.
In severe cases, it may lead to sepsis or meningitis.
Customers who purchased one of the listed batches (listed below) can return it to the pharmacy where it was dispensed for a refund.
Retailers, including pharmacies, are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.
