Man in his mid-fifties left in critical condition following serious assault

Gardaí are investigating a serious assault which occurred on Patrick Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath in the early hours of Sunday morning 7th January, 2024.

At approximately, 1.40am Gardaí were alerted to a disturbance outside a premises on Patrick Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath involving two men.
 
According to Gardaí, a man aged in his mid 50s was removed from the scene by emergency services personnel to Regional Hospital Mullingar. He is currently in Beaumont Hospital where his condition is understood to be critical. 

The scene was preserved for forensic examination and investigations are ongoing.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Any persons that were in the vicinity of Patrick Street, Mullingar between the hours of 1am to 2am on the morning of Sunday 7th January, 2024 that have video footage of this incident are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
