Irish passport remains one of the most powerful in the world

The Irish passport has remained as one of the most powerful passports in the world.

The Henley Passport Index released its annual ranking of all the world's passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.

Ireland has been ranked third along with The Netherlands, Denmark and Austria with access to 192 countries out of 227 destinations analysed.

In joint second place are South Korea, Finland and Sweden with visa-free travel to 193 destinations.

Japan, Italy, Germany and France have been ranked at number one as the world's most powerful passport, with Japan being at the top of the list for the last five years in a row, all with visa-free travel to 194 destinations.

Afghanistan is in last place with visa-free travel to just 28 countries worldwide.
