Almost 40,000 homes, farms and businesses are without power this Tuesday evening as many parts of the country are being impacted by Storm Jocelyn.

ESB Networks says around 24,000 customers who lost electricity during Storm Isha at the weekend remain without a supply while a further 14,000 have been impacted by winds associated with Storm Jocelyn.

A status orange wind warning for Galway and Mayo came into effect at 5pm while a similar warning for Donegal is valid from 6pm. A status yellow warning for the entire country remains valid until the early hours of Wednesday.

In an update, ESB Networks says approximately 221,000 homes, farms and businesses impacted by Storm Isha had their power restored as of 5.15pm.

"Approximately 24,000 customers who lost electricity supply during Storm Isha remain without power, predominantly in the North-West. In addition, 14,000 customers  have lost supply following the high winds associated with Storm Jocelyn so far today," said a spokesperson.

"All available ESB Networks resources are deployed in counties Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, and Sligo. This includes crews and partner contractors who have travelled from less impacted areas of the country," they added.

Met Éireann says the weather warnings associated with Storm Jocelyn are hampering repair work but that crews are continuing to work where it is safe to do so.

"Many customers will remain without power tonight while some customers will be without power for a number of days." said a spokesperson.
