An Irish animal charity is urging people to adopt or foster to save dogs "on death row".
My Lovely Horse Rescue released an appeal on Facebook yesterday (March 21) in the hopes of saving pets they and other rescues cannot take in due to overcrowding.
A spokesperson stated: "Fourteen requests today to help dogs nationwide that are literally on death row. We have no space, we are bursting at the seams, pounds full, rescues full! Each with their own story to tell and each let by down by humans either because they're unwanted, or people are being evicted and new landlords won’t allow pets.
"What are we to do? Our team is at breaking point, the emotional and mental drain this has on us is exhausting. Left awake at night remembering those we couldn’t help or didn’t get to quick enough. Sacrificing our own jobs, family time to do whatever we can to save one more life.
"We CANNOT continue if people don’t adopt or foster."
They continued: "If you’re in a position to help please get in contact today, time is of the essence and it is literally a matter of life and death. If you can’t help please do your part to not add to the problem: Neuter your pets! Don’t buy pets! Never buy a pet as a present for anyone.
"If you’re renting, please don’t get a pet, our country provides no safety net to those that rent and it’s the animals who are left to pay. Be responsible for taking on a living being, don’t expect others to clean up your mistakes!
"We are looking for people to commit long term and ideally are looking for people willing to take on a large breed dog as they are most in need right now."
Anyone interested in adopting or fostering an animal in need can fill out an application form.
