A Limerick woman organised a hurling and camogie tournament in memory of her dad, who died from SADS.

On Sunday, Keeva O’Brien organised a club 7s hurling and camogie adult tournament in memory of her dad, Willie O’Brien.

Originally from Knockainey, Mr O’Brien passed away in his sleep from SADS in August 2006, at the age of 27-year-old.

Sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS) is when someone dies suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac arrest, but the cause of the cardiac arrest can't be found.

All proceeds from the tournament and the fundraiser will be donated to the Dillon Quirke Foundation. So far, the fundraiser has reached €20,875.

On the fundraiser page, Keeva O’Brien explained: "Last October, the Limerick All-Ireland winning intermediate team of 1998 were honoured at half-time of the senior county final in Limerick, and I was asked to represent my dad. Meeting so many of his former teammates was an amazing opportunity for me, hearing stories and people speaking so highly of him, which has really motivated me to do something in his honour.

"All proceeds will go to the Dillon Quirke Foundation, who have been immense in providing awareness towards Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), and screening young people to prevent future cases."

You can donate to the fundraiser here.
