Food safety alert issued over popular tarts sold at Irish supermarkets

A food safety alert has been issued in relation to dessert tarts sold at supermarkets in Ireland.

The alert has been issued by the Food Safety Authority in relation to undeclared 'sulphur dioxide and sulphites' in the product.

The products impact are The Elizabeth Ann Dessert Collection The Mmmm Tart! Apple and Berry; pack size: 450g and The Elizabeth Ann Dessert Collection Apple Raspberry & Blueberry Tart; pack size: 575g.

The affected batches all have a best before dates up to and including June 5.

A statement from the FSAI read: "The above batches of The Elizabeth Ann Dessert Collection apple and berries tarts contain sodium metabisulphite (sulphur dioxide) which is not declared in the list of ingredients. This may make the batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of sulphur dioxide."
