A man has been arrested following a suspected fatal assault at a house in County Kerry.
Gardaí are investigating the incident that occurred in the early hours of this Friday in Castleisland.
"At approximately 12:30am, gardaí and emergency services received a report of an unresponsive male with serious injuries outside a residence at An Caislean Mor in Castleisland. The man, aged in his 40s, was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The body remains at the scene," said a garda spokesperson.
The offices of the State Pathologist have been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place later this Friday
Gardai say a man, aged in his 40s, has been arrested as part of this investigation. He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in Co. Kerry.
The scene of the incident at An Caislean Mor is currently preserved for technical examination and an investigation is ongoing.
