Three people including child dead in separate road crashes within 1 hour of eachother

Three people including a little girl have died following road collisions in two separate counties in less than 24 hours. 

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to both collisions, the first of which involved a woman in her 40s and female child in Lismoran, Foxford, Co Mayo yesterday evening (Tuesday July 2) at approximately 5.45pm. 

They were both fatally injured in a collision with a lorry on the N25. 

The second collision - which occurred just an hour later at approximately 6.40pm - was a single-vehicle incident involving a car colliding with a roadside ditch on the R395 at Teeveragh, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath. 

The sole occupant of the car - a man aged in his 50s - died at the scene. 

Ninety five people have died on Irish roads since the beginning of the year, with ten extra deaths when compared with the same date in 2023 (85). 

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to either collision to come forward. 

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N26 between Swinford and Foxford between 5pm and 6pm, or in the Teevrevagh area, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
