Tributes have poured in for a young Sligo man with a “vibrant spirit and zest for life”, who lost his life tragically in Canada last week.
Anthony McGwynne, a 27 year-old originally from Knockanelton, Calry, died when the motorbike he was travelling on was struck by a car on Arbutus Street in Vancouver on Thursday night.
The collision happened just before 9.30pm and despite life-saving efforts by bystanders and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment.
The Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland is providing consular assistance to Mr McGwynne’s family.

Anthony was the “dearly loved” son of dad Tony and mum Bernadette, the brother of James, Maeve and Matthew and partner of Antonella.
A notice on RIP.ie reads: “Sadly missed by his loving family, partner, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many friends.”
There have been numerous tributes to the young man on RIP.ie.
A friend from Canada left one of many heartfelt condolences, saying: "I am so sorry for your loss Antonella, Anthony's family and friends. Anthony's vibrant spirit and zest for life touched many hearts, and his absence will be deeply felt."
Another said Anthony "had the best friends and was such a lovely person".
A mother from Calry added to the tributes, saying that "it feels like only yesterday that Anthony and his friends were in Calry primary school. They headed off on their big adventure to Canada meeting many others on the way. Anthony was loved and respected by all."
Another added: “My condolence for the loss of a man. A man that was the salt of the earth, a loving and nurturing partner, a born adventurer with a taste for life.
“Taken to soon, but surrounded by those that loved and knew him like no others. Watch over me on my next ride, because you will be in my heart.”
Funeral arrangements for Anthony will be made at a later date.
