'One of a kind' - Tributes paid following death of man from tyre explosion in workplace accident

Tributes have poured in for Rocommon native Pat McCrann, who has been named locally following a tragic workplace accident on Wednesday evening.

Pat was working on the family farm in Sheepwalk, Frenchpark, when a tyre exploded, and he was fatally injured.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the premises at around 7pm on Thursday - but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body of Mr McCrann was removed to Roscommon University Hospital, and the Health and Safety Authority has since launched an investigation into the tragic accident.

The 50-year-old ran a tyre business in the area, called Pat McCrann Tyres.

Locals described Pat as “a hard working gentleman”.

Pat is sadly missed and remembered by his parents Pat and Ann, brothers Brian, Kevin and Eamon, sister-in-law Joan, Eamon’s partner Sinead, niece Liona, nephew Ronan, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

One condolence read: "My nephew Brian had a job with pat for years and was very happy working with him and were like brothers to each other. He will be very badly missed by Brian."

A local garda added that Pat "always worked long hours and was helpful to everyone, no matter what hour they needed his help".

A neighbour of the late Roscommon man said Pat "was a great neighbour and friend to us in Sheepwalk".

"Pat was a remarkable person and lead such an impactful life. He will be greatly missed by his family and all of us that knew him," the neighbour added.

Pat will repose in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Frenchpark on Sunday from 5pm with removal to St. Asicus’ Church, Frenchpark, arriving at 8pm.

The funeral mass will take place on Monday at 11am, followed by interment in Tibohine (new) cemetery.
