Popular Irish TikTok star Garron Noone was one of many to voice their concerns about the map, posted in error by Downing Street.

'They're stealing Daniel O'Donnell!' - Donegal takeover on UK government map sparks viral outrage

Social media has reacted in force to a mapping error by the UK government which lays claim to Donegal.

The map, which places the entire county within Northern Ireland, appeared during a video of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s speech at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Such a blunder by Number 10 Downing Street has sparked a mixture of shock and amusement online.

Under the caption “global challenges rebound on us at home”, a map of the British and Irish Isles appears with shading over England, Scotland, Wales and a large section of the northern part of Ireland.

Rather than including merely the six counties of Northern Ireland, the shaded portion extends all the way to the west coast, taking in Co Donegal.

A Government spokesperson said today: “This was a graphics error and will be updated shortly”.

The video was taken down while the error was fixed.

Mayo Tiktok sensation Garron Noone was quick to call out the map in a viral video, claiming that in a "strategic move", the UK government were trying to steal "the most powerful and handsome man in Ireland, Daniel O'Donnell".

Others joked online that the county would be renamed "Londonegal", while one asked "can we trade Cavan for Donegal?"

"Let them build some train tracks first, then we’ll take it back,” suggested one commenter.

"Writing was on the wall when they found out scone is pronounced like "gone" here,” joked another.
