A candlelight vigil is to take place in Rathkeale this Christmas Eve to honour the life of the late Marguerita Sheridan and to "provide a space for community healing" following her tragic death.

The young mother, 21, lost her fight for life on Saturday afternoon following a hit-and-run incident in her hometown in County Limerick just after midday.

The community in Rathkeale will "unite in grief" this Tuesday, Christmas Eve, at 4pm at the crib at the Abbey Grounds, Rathkeale to remember "a cherished soul taken too soon".

Locals are encouraged to bring a candle.

Ms Sheridan sustained serious injuries in an incident involving a silver Ford Transit van at approximately 12:15pm on Saturday.

She was taken to University Hospital Limerick in Limerick city but was pronounced dead later that evening.
