The fatal incident happened on the N69 near Askeaton on Wednesday night

Witnesses are being sought after a motorcyclist was killed in a road crash in County Limerick on Wednesday night.

In an appeal, gardai say the single-vehicle collision, involving a motorcycle, occurred on the N69 at Cloonreask, near the town of Askeaton shortly before 8pm.

"The motorcycle driver, a man in his 30s, was later pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course," said a garda spokesperson.

Motorists are being advised the road remains closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and that local diversions are in place.
