Joe Duffy for Irish Presidency? Irish punters say 'no doubt he would be a popular candidate'

Joe Duffy for Irish Presidency?

Joe Duffy could be eyeing up a run for the Presidency after recently resigning from RTE's Liveline after 27 years, according to Ladbrokes. But is that what Irish people would want?

According to recent comments by Irish people on social media, it doesn't seem so!

Rumours have been circulating that the 69-year-old will be on the ballot in the Presidential Election in November, with odds 'at 5/1' that the legendary broadcaster will run for President, according to Ladbrokes.

On a recent Late Late Show, Joe was asked the big question by host Patrick Kielty who said, "we can't let you go without asking what's next, are you interested in maybe heading to the 'big park?' The big house maybe in November?".

Joe responded jokingly, "there's no way I'm moving into a smaller house, are you joking me!".

He then went on to say, "I'm going to BCC...be more active..be more mindful and then the C is to see more of my family," Joe Duffy said.

Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes said, “Joe Duffy is such an iconic character in Irish society. No doubt he would be a popular candidate in the Presidential Election. Punters want to see him go for it.”

The comments under a post on X about Late Late's show featuring Joe Duffy were very negative, slating both the RTE show and Joe Duffy himself.

One person commented, "Will RTÉ even exist in 5 years time? It's now basically an insolvent legacy media organisation now totally dependent on the state for survival - the show is over for RTÉ".

Another person said, "Waste of taxpayers money, all of you.. parasites to the Nation".
