A Mayo village is numb with grief after a well known farmer in the community died yesterday afternoon after he was involved in a quad accident.
The man aged in his 60s was pronounced dead yesterday afternoon on farmland close to the east Mayo village of Kilkelly when a quad on which he was riding overturned.

The emergency services rushed to the scene to tend to the victim but he was pronounced dead and removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem was to take place to determine the cause of death.
The victim whose name has not officially been released was married and a well known member of the farming community in Kilkelly area.
Local councillor John Caulfield said that he knew the victim well and was shocked and saddened to hear of his death which he said has rocked the local community.

“The village is numb following the tragic news and the death of a very popular member of the community. It is a sad day today in Kilkelly and the thoughts of the community are with his family and neighbours at this sad time,” he said.
Gardaí are currently investigating the cause of the accident and the Coroner for Mayo was also notified and an inquest will take place at a later date.
