LATEST: Gardaí make arrest after serious assault leaves man (80s) in critical condition

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward

Gardaí who are continuing to investigate a serious assault that left an elderly man in critical condition have made an arrest. 
On Friday, September 12, authorities received a report of an incident at St Michael’s Avenue in Tipperary Town. This occurred at approximately 9:35pm.
From here, a man, aged in his 80s, was taken to University Hospital Limerick, where he remains in critical condition.
 
Now, Gardaí have confirmed that a man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested in relation to this incident. He is currently detained under provisions of Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in Co Tipperary.
 
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
 
Anyone who was in the area of St Michael’s Avenue between 7pm and 10pm, and has video camera footage (including dash-cam), is asked to make it available to Gardaí.
 
Anyone with information is asked to contact Tipperary Town Garda Station on 062 80670, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
 
Investigations are ongoing.
