Sale of criminals' homes sees over €1 million recouped by CAB in just 48 hours

The sale of a number of homes that had belonged to criminals in Limerick, Waterford, and Dublin has seen over €1 million recouped by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) in just 48 hours. 

Two properties were sold in Limerick for a combined value of €341,000, both of which were linked to Kieran Keane Jr. 

He is the son of gang boss Kieran Keane Sr, who was tortured and shot in a gangland hit in 2003, according to BreakingNews.ie.

Keane Jr's two properties were sold via an online auction held by BRG Gibson Auctions on Thursday. 

Both sold for well over the asking prices, with one property being bought for €173,000 and the other for €168,000.

On Wednesday, a home in Dublin that had belonged to a drug dealer called David Waldron sold for €490,000.

Waldron also had a mansion worth €1.6 million seized by CAB. 

In Waterford, the home of Tipperary man John O’Connor Jr was sold at auction for €255,000.

"The taking of these properties sends a very visible message to the communities in which these people reside and who have been benefitting from the proceeds of crime," Head of CAB, Detective Chief Superintendent Michael Gubbins, said.
