A nationwide ban on the use of scrambler bikes in public places across Ireland will come into force this Friday, in a major shift aimed at tackling ongoing safety concerns and anti-social behaviour.
The new legislation, widely referred to as 'Grace's Law', will prohibit the use of scramblers across all public areas including roads, parks and housing estates, which marks a significant tightening of existing rules, which previously required Gardaí to prove dangerous driving before taking action.

The changes come just over two months after the death of 16-year-old Grace Lynch, who was tragically killed after being hit my a scrambler in Finglas, county Dublin.
The teenagers death sparked widespread outcry, including tireless campaigning from her grief-stricken parents, and renewed pressure on the Government to address what many see as a growing issue in communities across the country.
In response, ministers fast-tracked the legislation, framing it as both a safety measure and a necessary step to close enforcement gaps.

Under the new rules, Gardaí will be granted enhanced powers to seize scrambler bikes on the spot, even if they are not being driven dangerously. There are also provisions that could allow for confiscated bikes to be destroyed rather than returned to owners.
The ban forms part of a broader crackdown on the misuse of off-road vehicles in urban areas, an issue that has increasingly been linked to noise complaints, intimidation and dangerous driving in residential neighbourhoods.
