Rathvilly needs volunteers on Monday, August 13 in preparation for pilgrims arriving in the village ahead of the visit of Pope Francis.

The Rathvilly/Kiltegan Parish is hosting pilgrims from three different countries during the Pope's visit this month.

Local residents will provide a bed and breakfast for visitors travelling to attend the World Meeting of Families Congress in Dublin for the week which will end in a mass celebrated by Pope Francis in the Phoenix Park on August 26.

In a post on Facebook, Rathvilly Tidy Towns Association said: "We are hoping to obtain 3 teleporters to put up the nearly 2km of bunting around the village.

"To do this safely we need at least 12 volunteers to direct traffic, hand up bunting and put it up. We will be meeting in the village at 7:15pm so if you have a couple of hours we would love to have you come and help us.

"If you have a hiVis please bring it and any spares you may have for those without."
