The Samaritans Carlow-Kilkenny branch is hosting a major fundraiser and awareness event on Tuesday, December 11, and is looking for support from the people of Carlow.
All businesses, community groups, clubs, schools and households across both counties are encouraged to host their own fundraising and awareness event in aid of the charity.
Local radio station, KCLR, is also hosting a fundraising gala in the Set Theatre, Kilkenny, featuring Dordan, Newfoundland, The Kalimbas, Davie Furey, Ryan O Shaughnessy, Tomas Jackman and a host of other musical stars. Proceeds go to the local Samaritans branch.
Anyone can hold their own fundraiser on Samaritans Day, and it can be any kind of event, spokesperson for the Carlow-Kilkenny branch, Teresa Brennan, said.
“Any event, big or small, makes a difference. Every little helps, from a community coffee morning to a school no uniform day. There is no maximum number of people per fundraiser, either. The more the merrier and we hope that Carlow businesses, groups, schools and organisations will organise their own event.,” she said.
The money raised will help Samaritans Carlow-Kilkenny as they relocate from their premises on Dean Street in Kilkenny out to the Waterford Road. However, the charity are also focusing on raising awareness - not just money. Teresa is eager to get word about the Samaritans out there, especially as they approach the busy Christmas period. Christmas, she explains, can be a very lonely and difficult time for some people.
KCLR, who are proudly supporting this fundraiser, will be promoting all registered events across the airwaves and online in the lead up to Samaritans Day on December 11.
