Tottenham make record breaking signing for St Pat's youngster

Mason Melia has made the trip over the pond to Premiere League and becomes the League of Ireland's most expensive transfer

League of Ireland transfer record shattered by Spurs for St Pat's striker

Premiere League side Tottenham Hotspur have smashed the League of Ireland record transfer fee with their signing of St Pat's teenager, Mason Melia.

The Wicklow man played up top for St Pat's, with the Dublin team finishing third last season in one of the most fiercely competed League of Ireland campaigns.

He has smashed the previous record transfer which was held by Irish international, Liam Scales, who made the switch from Shamrock Rovers to Celtic in 2021 for €600,000 and another Irish international Gavin Bazunu's move to Manchester City's academy for €500,000, also from Shamrock Rovers.

But Melia's transfer is the first in the history of League of Ireland to break the million mark with a reported fee of €1.8 million. With St Pat's also reportedly having a 20% sell on clause for the young man.

The 17 year old managed an impressive 7 goals and 2 assists last season earning him the move to the Premiere League giants.

With injury stricken Spurs may be needing the Wicklow man sooner than we all may think as he enters a Spur's team who currently are sitting 14th in the Premiere League, with €60 million pound man, Dominic Solanke, sidelined with a knee injury, an inclusion in the Spurs first team squad may be on the horizon.
