"Today Carlow Gardai marked the retirement of one of its longest serving and popular Roads Policing members, Bernard Graham. One of the original members of the Road Policing unit, then Traffic Corps, when it was established in 2002. Bernard began his training in the Garda College in 1994 and was stationed Rathmines, Newbridge and Baltinglas before transferring to Carlow in 2002. The Carlow Traffic Corps was initially set up for a one year trial with four members but it became a permanent unit after a successful first year. Bernard stayed with the Roads Policing unit for the remainder of his service culminating today after 22 years. In that time Bernard has become a very recognisable figure on the roads in Carlow mainly because of his stature but also because of his broad smile. He was as much a community Garda as a Road Policing Garda and was never happier than when he out and about meeting people. We wish him a long and happy retirement with his lovely family."
