Planning permission has been sought for a major makeover and upgrade of a popular sports facility in Carlow.

The Carlow Lawn Tennis Club has made a planning application to Carlow County Council.

The development would consist of two new all-weather tennis courts, two new all-weather paddle courts, two new indoor badminton courts, a renovation of the male and female changing rooms, an extension of the first floor to incorporate an office, gym, shop, and new clubhouse entrance, and an external balcony.

The tennis court development would also include fencing, floodlights, and ball stops.

The paddle courts will be fitted with fencing, floodlights, and canopy/roof covers.

The new badminton courts will be adjoining the existing two courts to the west of the site.

The external balcony will be at first floor level of the clubhouse overlooking the tennis courts.

A decision on the development on the Oak Park Road is due on August 12th.

Established in 1878, the Carlow Lawn Tennis Club is a multi-sport club offering facilities and coaching for tennis, badminton, and squash.

It is among the oldest tennis clubs in Leinster.
