Newly-elected Mayor of Carlow Tom O'Neill
COUNCILLOR Tom O’Neill has been elected as the new Mayor of Carlow Municipal District.
The Fine Gael councillor was elected at the AGM of Carlow Municipal District, which was held in Carlow Town Hall on Thursday.
Mayor O’Neill was previously elected as Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council in 2020. He was proposed as Mayor by Cllr Fergal Brown, which was seconded by the present Cathaoirleach Andrea Dalton.
Following a show of hands, it was unanimously agreed. He takes over the role of Mayor from Fianna Fáil Cllr Fintan Phelan.

In his remarks following his election, Mayor O’Neill thanked his fellow councillors for “giving me the opportunity to serve as mayor of this wonderful town.”
“I look forward to working with each and everyone of you for the next year and to the staff here, it’s an honour for me to work with such professional people who always have Carlow town to the forefront in any decision that is made,” he said.
Mayor O’Neill’s Fine Gael compatriot, Cllr Fergal Browne, was then proposed by Cllr Phelan and seconded by Cllr Ken Murnane for the position of deputy mayor.
