St. Ultan's Church, Rathcore, Enfield, Co. Meath, A83YX70
A striking and rare piece of Irish history is on the market, and it could be yours for just €49,000.
St. Ultan's Church in Rathcore, Co Meath, was built in 1806 to replace a medieval church dedicated to the patron saint of the parish. Closing for worship in December 2023 and formally deconsecrated earlier this year, the former Church of Ireland building is now seeking a new chapter.
Set on a 0.59-acre site, the 138 sq m (1,480 sq ft) property is packed with original features from its gable-fronted design and curved apse with a decorated stained-glass window, to timber windows, cast-iron porch frames, and limestone detailing.
Two porches were added in 1865, but the building has remained remarkably unaltered for over 200 years. The site itself is steeped in history, sitting beside a still-active graveyard (excluded from the sale) on land gifted for religious use around 700AD. Local lore holds that a ring fort once occupied the site, adding to its heritage appeal.
While any redevelopment will require planning due to the building's protected status, the location just 6km from Enfield, 14km from Trim, and under 50km from Dublin via the M4, makes it a tempting project for those with vision.
Whether transformed into a home, studio, or community space, St. Ultan's offers a rare opportunity to reimagine a landmark steeped in centuries of history. It is listed with an asking price of €49,000 on Daft.ie.
