Councillor says the properties are 'not safe'

A councillor has said that seven vacant houses at Milford Cross are "not safe" because of anti-social behaviour and dumping in the area.

The matter came up at this month's meeting of Carlow Municipal District when Cllr Jim Deane brought the issues to the attention of the Council staff.

"There's a lot of anti-social behaviour in that area. Residents who enjoyed walking in that area have stopped and there is dumping of rubbish too. The premises are not safe, could the local authority engage with the receiver?"

Housing Officer, Josephine Kavanagh, said she would be happy to engage with Cllr Deane on the matter.

Cllr John Pender added that the seven houses are in proximity to an active quarry and there is blasting going on.

"I don't believe they (the seven houses) will ever be operational. Maybe they should be demolished," he suggested.
