Carlow businesses and entrepreneurs to benefit from Local Enterprise Week 2024

Carlow County Council are set to host Local Enterprise Week from 4th-8th March 2024.

Small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs in County Carlow will benefit from a diverse line-up of events designed to assist them in launching or expanding their enterprises during this year's Local Enterprise Week.

Organized by the Local Enterprise Offices nationwide, with support from Enterprise Ireland and local authorities, the initiative is scheduled to take place from the 4th to 8th of March across the country.

Launching the Carlow Programme , Cllr. Andrea Dalton , Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council said: 'As we embark on Local Enterprise Week 2024, I urge each and every local enterprise to actively participate and support this programme. Local enterprises are the backbone of our community, driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering a sense of pride in our unique products and services.'

'By engaging in Local Enterprise Week, we not only celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit that defines us but also contribute to the flourishing ecosystem of our community. Small and local businesses are the heartbeat of our economy, and your involvement can make a significant impact.'

There will be hundreds of events nationally throughout the week, including two National Spotlight events available for free online.

Carlow boasts a rich selection of accessible events for all which includes:

Monday 4th March 2024

  • Rural Business Advice Clinic (Tullow) with Melissa Doyle – Business Advisor, 9am-1pm, Forward Steps, Tullow.
  • Trading Online Voucher Seminar with Sarah Byrne – Business Advisor & Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise, 11am-12noon, Online.

Tuesday 5th March 2024

  • Rural Business Advice Clinic (Bagenalstown) with Sarah Byrne – Business Advisor, 9am-1pm, Mc Grath Hall, Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow.

Wednesday 6th March 2024

  • National Enterprise Awards – County Final, 11.45am-2.00pm, Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Kilkenny Road, Carlow.

Thursday 7th March 2024

  • Rural Business Advice Clinic (Borris) with Seamus Doran – Assistant Head of Economic Development & Enterprise, 9am-1pm, Borris Library, Borris, Co. Carlow.
  • Student Enterprise Programme – County Final, 2pm-2.30pm, Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Kilkenny Road, Carlow.

Friday 8th March 2024

  • Enterprise Week - Powerhouse – International Women’s Day – Community & Business Lunch, 12noon-2pm, Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Kilkenny Road, Carlow.
  • Start Your Own Business Programme, Enterprise House, O’Brien Road, Carlow.

Commenting on the importance of the Local Enterprise Office programme as part of the Economic Development investment of Carlow County Council, Coilín O'Reilly, Chief Executive said: 'Investing in small businesses is not just a financial commitment; it's an investment in the heartbeat of our community. Local authorities play a pivotal role in nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit that drives innovation, creates jobs, and propels economic growth. By strategically supporting small enterprises, we're not only fostering economic resilience but also empowering individuals to turn their dreams into reality.'

Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise with Carlow County Council said: 'Local Enterprise Week is a fantastic marker in the road for any business. It’s an opportunity to take stock of where you are, see where you can grow, innovate, or become more sustainable, and discover the resources available on your doorstep. There is something for everyone, and for those with the ambition to start their own business, this is the week to see how to get started and make it happen.'

'There are hundreds of events taking place all over the country covering everything from exporting and digital to going green or growing that idea. We also have two National Spotlight events taking place online and open to everyone that include experts from a range of industries. So online or on your doorstep, I would encourage everyone to check out the schedule of events and get involved.'

The two National Spotlight events are open to everyone and can be accessed online.

The first, 'Understanding and Leveraging Future Trends for Your Business' takes place on Wednesday 6th March and explores emerging trends and their impact on business, providing insights on adaptation and leveraging for success.

The second spotlight event focuses on sustainability, titled 'Sustainability Imperative for Business Success' taking place on Thursday 7th March, headlined by renowned broadcaster and science and environment expert Liz Bonnin. The session will highlight how small changes in businesses can make a big impact and, more importantly, how to start.
