The family of three sisters involved in M9 wrong-way crash has issued an update statement

The family of three sisters involved in a serious road traffic collision have issued a statement ahead of nationwide support.

The tragic incident occurred on the M9 when a BMW with five teenagers in it was travelling in the wrong direction and struck the car of three sisters and a young boy from Carlow.

The five boys were all found deceased after the horrifying crash and the incident has shocked and devastated the country.

The three sisters Ella, Niamh and Alma and a young boy were all driving to Dublin Airport when the car they were in was struck by the BMW.

The three sisters are in hospital fighting serious injuries.

A GoFundMe was created over a week ago to support the Carlow family while the sisters are in hospital.

An amazing €784,346 has been raised on GoFundMe and the family has issued a statement to thank people across the country for their generosity.

The update from the family said: “Hi everyone, we wanted to take a moment as a family to say a heartfelt thank you to every single person who has supported Ella, Niamh and Alma.

“The kindness and generosity shown to our family has been truly overwhelming. From everyone who has donated, shared the fundraiser, sent messages, kept us in their thoughts or supported us in any way, please know how much it means to all of us”.

The statement said that right now their focus is completely on the girls and being together as a family.

“We aren't ready to share any further details at this stage, and we really appreciate everyone continuing to respect our privacy.

“What we did want to do was personally acknowledge the incredible support we've received. Seeing so many people come together for the girls has meant more to us than we could ever properly put into words.

“Thank you for continuing to keep Ella, Niamh and Alma in your thoughts and for all the love and support you've shown our family”.
