Forward Steps Resource Centre in Tullow is seeking volunteer tutors to assist migrants and refugees improving their English

A Tullow community centre is looking for volunteers to help migrants and refugees build their confidence in conversational English.

Forward Steps Resource Centre, located in Tullow is seeking volunteer tutors to support its Fáilte Isteach programme, which provides informal English classes for adults.

The initiative focuses on everyday spoken English, with volunteers helping participants practise conversations and become more comfortable communicating in their daily lives.

Previous experience in teaching ESOL or TEFL would be helpful, but is not essential for the role.

Volunteers are being asked to bring patience, good listening skills and the ability to encourage others to speak and participate in a group.

The classes will take place at Forward Steps Resource Centre on Chapel Lane in Tullow, with a commitment of two hours per week requested for a minimum of one year.

The centre says volunteers will play an important role in creating a welcoming environment where participants can develop their language skills while also building connections within the local community.

Forward Steps Resource Centre provides a range of services to the Tullow community, including family support, information and advice, counselling, play therapy, education and training opportunities, preschool and afterschool services, as well as community activities.

The centre also runs a Fáilte Isteach Parent & Toddler Group and after school clubs.

Those interested in getting involved as a conversational English tutor have until February 1, 2027 to volunteer.
