'We can't repeat mistakes of the past,' senior Carlow County Council official talks housing

A need to build 'sustainable communities'
A Director of Services at Carlow County Council has said the local authority "can't repeat the mistakes of the past" when it comes to housing and planning decisions.
Michael Brennan was addressing members of Bagenalstown Municipal District at this month's meeting when he was presenting his Housing Report to the local representatives.
"We can't repeat the mistakes of the past. We need to build sustainable communities," he said.
The Council are currently mapping social housing in the county and Mr Brennan said they are finding a "high concentration in certain areas".
He told members that there was room for private developers to come in and build houses as well as Approved Housing Bodies.
Mr Brennan said the ideal situation for future social housing developments would be to have them "peppered around the place".
