Heavy showers on the way as advisory weather warning issued for Carlow

Met Eireann has issued a Moderate Advisory Warning for Carlow today as Storm Ciaran is tracking towards the south of Ireland bringing brutal conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds.

Met Éireann is monitoring Storm Ciaran which looks like it will impact Ireland on Wednesday and Thursday. The national forecaster has already issued a number of warnings for the grim weather system.

"Storm Ciaran will to track to the south of Ireland on Wednesday night and Thursday bringing heavy rain and strong winds, especially to Leinster and Munster. Continuing unsettled for the rest of the week.

"On Wednesday night, Storm Ciaran will track eastwards close to the south coast of Ireland with a spell of heavy rain, mainly over Munster and Leinster with the likelihood of some flooding. Fresh to strong and gusty northeast winds will develop and will also be strongest in Munster and Leinster. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees, coldest in Ulster," they said.

The warning is in place until Thursday as there will be heavy showers or longer spells of rain at times with flooding likely in places, as soils are saturated and river levels are high.

Squally showers on Wednesday morning will be accompanied by very gusty conditions. Later Wednesday and on Thursday, further rainfall associated with Storm Ciarán may lead to flooding.

It is likely that the heaviest rain will be in southern and eastern coastal counties.

Additional Impacts: Poor visibility and dangerous driving conditions.

The warning is in place from 10am today until 11pm on Thursday.
