Alan O'Reilly has urged the public not to be 'scared' of the extreme red colours on the latest weather models predicting soaring temperatures to come this weekend.

In a post on X, the Carlow Weatherman said,

"No it’s not a heatwave but it will get above 20c Friday and Saturday for many areas, however cooler in the South with sea breeze. The second set of images are using flex scale to make it easier to see differences before all the people scared by red colours start their nonsense."

Met Éireann has also said the weather is expected to take a nice upturn this week.

High pressure will continue to dominate until later in the weekend, bringing dry settled weather, with a good lot of sunshine and it'll be warm with temperatures in the high teens to the low twenties.

It looks like we'll see a gradual change to more unsettled weather later in the weekend or early next week and turning cooler.

Some cooler weather with possible patches of rain is expected tomorrow, Thursday, but sun is expected to be out in force on Friday and Saturday.

Friday will be another dry day with plenty of warm sunshine developing through the course of the day. Again, any overnight mist and fog will clear quickly during the morning hours to leave a dry day with warm sunshine.

Highest temperatures on Friday will generally range between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, but possibly reaching 23 degrees Celsius under those prolonged spells of sunshine. It will be warmest inland, and coolest along south and southeast coasts due to the onshore breezes as winds will be light to moderate and mostly south or southeast in direction

Friday night will be a dry night with long clear spells and again some mist and fog will form overnight, especially in parts of Munster. Lowest temperatures overnight will generally range between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius. Winds will be mostly in light in strength and southeasterly in direction.

Saturday will be another dry day with mist and fog clearing early on Saturday morning. There'll be lots sunshine once again, possibly turning a little hazy at times though. Highest temperatures of 19 to 23 degrees, but possibly reaching 24 degrees under those prolonged spells of sunshine.

It will be warmest inland, and coolest along south and southeast coasts due to the onshore south or southeast breeze

Saturday night will likely stay dry in most areas overnight, though there's the chance of some showers or rain, developing in the south and west. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in light southerly or variable breezes.

Sunday will see more cloud in the mix and some showers will break out, some heavy, with the chance of an isolated thunderstorm, but a good lot of dry weather is likely too, with some further spells of sunshine.

A more persistent spell of rain will possibly move in from the west later. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees.in light to moderate southeast breezes.
