Ireland may be set to welcome some good weather having been starved of sunshine so far this summer, according to Met Éireann's latest forecast.

Hopes are high for a so-called Indian Summer in Ireland with warm sunshine extending into early September as the kids go back to school.

Met Éireann's latest prediction seems to suggest that some nice sunshine is on the way despite the country being under weather warning for wind and rain as recently as Tuesday of this week.

Met Éireann's outlook states that the early part of the week will be "generally cool with showers at times" but added that there are "early indications of drier and more settled weather developing during the weekend and beyond."

The forecast for Tuesday evening reads: "Clear spells and isolated showers at first tonight. More widespread showers will develop across the western half of the country later in the night, some heavy. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds.

"Sunny spells and scattered showers at first [on Wednesday]. The showers will turn more widespread through the morning and afternoon, some heavy with a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in moderate west to southwest winds."

Beyond that, they say it will be "a bright and fresh day on Thursday with plenty of sunshine and just a few scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

"Mainly dry on Thursday night with long clear spells. Minimum temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds.

"Mostly dry on Friday with early spells of sunshine giving way to cloudier conditions through the day. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees in light variable winds," the forecast continues.

The latest forecast from Met Éireann concludes: "Early indications suggest that Saturday will be mostly dry with spells of warm sunshine developing. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees, in light southerly breezes."
