Batten down the hatches! Met Éireann issues more Status Red warnings as Storm Éowyn approaches

The majority of the country is set to be impacted by Storm Éowyn later this week as Met Éireann have just issued further Status Red warnings.

Initially, only Cork, Clare, Limerick and Kerry were affected by the wind warnings.

In the latest update from Met Éireann, the warning now extends to Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Roscommon and Tipperary. 

The forecaster has warned: "Gale to storm force southerly winds becoming westerly will bring severe, damaging and extremely destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h."

They have also cautioned that Storm Éowyn will pose a "danger to life" as well as widespread dangerous travelling conditions, unsafe working conditions, significant power outages and structural damage.

People can also expect disruptions to transport, communication networks as well as fallen trees and debris. 

The storm is expected to impact the country through the early hours of Friday morning. The warning in place for Cork, Kerry and Clare is valid from 2am on Friday until 10am.

This is slightly later for Clare and Galway, with the warning valid from 3am on Friday until midday. 

Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim's warning extends from 4am on Friday until 12pm. The warning will be in effect for Donegal from 6am on Friday until 3pm. 

The warning for the rest of the impacted counties will be in place from 6am until midday.
