Temperatures to plummet to -4 degrees this weekend

This coming weekend will be bitterly cold across the country, Cathal Nolan from the Midland Weather Channel has warned.

The regional forecaster says all areas will experience temperatures well below normal for the time of year.

"Winds will be fresh also, reaching gale force on northern coasts making temperatures feel closer to freezing," the meteorologist added.

"Highest temperatures over the weekend will typically range between 4-7 degrees Celsius, with nighttime values reaching as low as -3 or -4 degrees Celsius in sheltered inland areas."

He says for the remainder of this week, reasonably dry and sunny conditions will remain in place, though cloud will increase as the week progresses.

"Temperatures will remain between 9-13 degrees Celsius, before falling back considerably through Friday and over the weekend," Cathal added.
