WEATHER: Carlow had the fewest number of wet days nationwide for month of January

Carlow had just over a third of its average rainfall for the month of January which was one of the lowest in the country, Met Éireann has revealed in its January weather report. 

The Dolmen County had a monthly rainfall total of 30.9mm.

Monthly rainfall totals for the month were lowest at Dublin Airport with 26.8 mm 

All monthly rainfall totals for January across the country were below their Long-Term Average (LTA).

Percentage of monthly rainfall values ranged from 38% (monthly rainfall total of 30.9mm) at Carlow (Oak Park) to 88% (the month's highest monthly rainfall total of 146.8mm) at Newport, Mayo. 

The number of wet days ranged from 6 days at Carlow (Oak Park) to 23 days at both Newport, Mayo and Valentia Observatory, Co Kerry.

A wet day is a day with 1mm or more of rainfall.
