Temperatures set to plunge to -3 tonight
There may be blue skies over Carlow town at the moment but temperatures are starting to drop again and snow has been spotted in parts of the county.
Posted on X, formerly twitter earlier, user Grainne Leneghan (@grainneleneghan) uploaded the video, tagging Carlow Weather, with the caption "Here's the snow/wind/hail".
Carlow Weatherman Alan O'Reilly then retweeted the post with the caption "Showers falling as snow on higher ground now".
A mix of sunny spells and scattered showers expected in most of the county today with some of the showers being heavy and of hail with a chance of isolated thunderstorms.
Sleet is possible on high ground too. Light to moderate west to southwest winds at first, but becoming breezy later as winds increase moderate to fresh and gusty. Stronger gusts near showers and along Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees.
Tonight will be cold with frost and possibly ice as temperatures fall to between -1 and +3 degrees. There will be clear spells and scattered showers, most frequent in the west.
Some will be heavy with hail and sleet, with some snow possible on high ground. Light to moderate west to southwest winds, occasionally increasing fresh and gusty.
