Met Éireann has named the storm

Storm Hannah has been officially named by Met Éireann with weather warnings expected on Thursday, says Carlow forecaster Alan O'Reilly.

He said: "Latest overnight models show storm bringing some damaging gusts to southwest Friday evening with a rough night across southern half of the country. Stay up to date with forecast as weather warnings will he issued."

The approaching weather system is expected to bring severe gales to Ireland on Friday night.

At present at Status Yellow Wind Warning is in place for Kerry and Cork from 6pm on Friday until 6am on Saturday.

Met Éireann warned earlier this week in an advisory that with many trees now in leaf, this system has the potential to result in trees down leading to power outages and dangerous driving conditions.
