'A step in the right direction...'

The Dinn Rí and The Terrace in Carlow Town have announced that they are now free of plastic straws and will be using paper straws from now on.

The popular haunts wish to do their bit to curb plastic pollution. The Last Plastic Straw is a project of Plastic Pollution Coalition to make plastic straws "a relic of the past".

Over 500,000,000 plastic straws are used each day in the United States.
