As part of National Heritage Week, a bird watch event will be held in association with the Heritage Office of Carlow Co. Council.

The walk is bird and butterfly themed and will take you through some mixed woodland and scrub in the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains. The woods has a population of red squirrels and wide array of butterfly species including Silver-washed and Dark-green Fritillaries. Woodpeckers are also frequently spotted here.

It will take place on the last day of Heritage Week 2023, Sunday 20th August. The outing will take place in Kilbrannish Wood, Deerpark New, Co. Carlow and those who wish to0 attend are asked to meet at the entrance to the woods at 2pm.

It is recommended to bring along binoculars if you have them.

The location is also very good for nature photography.
