At the November Tullow Municipal District Meeting held this week Councillor Will Paton raised an issue of housing.

Paton said he received a phone call from a family living in a mobile home in the Tullow Municipal District who were sent an unauthorised development notice.

'Where is the family supposed to go? Where can they go?' urged Paton.

Councillor John Pender raised a similar issue at the Carlow County Council meeting earlier this month where he spoke of residents 'living in garages' as they can't afford housing.

Paton further commented on the situation 'I'm frustrated, I understand their anger.'

'Where's the planning department proposing to put this young family?'

'There needs to be a solution - even if it's short-term.'

The council responded saying they were empathetic with the family. However to allow them to stay in the mobile home 'it would require a change in legislation which needs to be done at a political level.'
