Tullow applicant successful for Community Biodiversity Grant

Local Fianna Fáil TD Jennifer Murnane O'Connor has congratulated a Carlow group for its successful application for a community grant. 
 
A total of €376,000 is being provided to 78 community plans through a partnership between Government and the Community Foundation Ireland.
 
Develop Tullow Association - Tullow Tidy Towns Committee will receive €4,000 for the implementation of its local Community Biodiversity Action Plan, focusing on the erection of swift nest boxes and biodiversity signage in the area. 
 
Deputy Murnane O'Connor said: "I want to congratulate Develop Tullow Association-Tullow Tidy Towns Committee for its successful application for this important grant, which connects community groups with scientific expertise to helping them better understand their local biodiversity. They will also be able to work with ecologists to create a Community Biodiversity Action Plan and can then seek further funding to implement it.
 
"Fianna Fáil in government will continue to empower local communities to restore nature at the grassroots level, especially as the National Biodiversity Action Plan continues to take hold. 
 
"Active, informed and engaged communities will help us ensure that policy-making for biodiversity is a two way street: top down and bottom up."
