Carlow has recently celebrated the conclusion of the Fáilte Ireland Destination Towns initiative.

This project aimed to enrich the visitor experience within Carlow. The project was backed with a €500,000 investment from Fáilte Ireland and aims to breathe new life into Carlow Town and the wider town area.

The initiative was celebrated by numerous members involved in Carlow Tourism initiatives such as Cllr Andrea Dalton, Mayor Cllr Tom O'Neil, representatives from Carlow Tourism, Carlow College, Visual, Carlow Museum and County Carlow Camber.

The investment project focused on the following areas:

Wayfinding/Heritage Trail Improvements:  A comprehensive wayfinding scheme was developed, ensuring that visitors can effortlessly navigate the town. This included the generation of a cohesive story of Carlow Town, along with a signage declutter and installation of new gateway signs welcoming visitors to the town.

Visual Public Realm: The public space outside of Visual was adapted to create a linger space for tourists, particularly tour groups. The new space now features seating enough to accommodate coach-type tours, with the wayfinding improvements commencing at that point.

Public Art Project: As part of the project, Artist Remco de Fouw was commissioned by the Public Art Working Group to create "Sky Rivers (after Tyndall) Group," a focal piece on the trail which is erected in Carlow Town Park. The work is intended as a meeting point between ancient mark-making rituals on stones and the development of modern fiber-optic communications systems, using different wavelengths of light.
