Teenager killed in fatal car crash on the Carlow and Wicklow border

The incident which took place on Sunday may 5th at 5am in Baltinglass, County Wicklow

A fatal car crash has taken place on the Carlow and Wicklow border in Baltinglass in which a teenage girl has been killed. The incident took place on Sunday the 5th of May before 5am at Slaney Park in Baltinglass.

Garda press release reads as follows:

Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred shortly before 5am on Sunday 5th May 2024 at Slaney Park in Baltinglass, County Wicklow.

The passenger of the car involved, a female youth in her teens, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other serious injuries to persons was reported.

The driver of the car, a male youth in his teens, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act. He is still being detained at a Garda Station in Wicklow under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The road at Slaney Park is currently closed with local diversions in place and Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting an examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam footage) and were travelling in the Slaney Park area between 4:30am and 5am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
