Dave Byrne, a post-primary teacher at Tyndall College Carlow, has had his dissertation recognised amongst a collection of research papers on education chosen for publication by Hibernia College.

As part of an ongoing programme highlighting key research works undertaken by graduates from its Post-Primary and Primary Education programmes, Dave’s research examined the ‘attitudes towards inclusive education amongst post-primary Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers’. His findings observed that educators believe inclusive education is a worthy ideal to strive for, but there is little evidence globally to show that inclusion within classrooms is both happening and having a definitive impact on learning attainment.

Undertaken during his master’s degree in Post-Primary teaching, Dave’s full study is available in print and can be read online through the Hibernia College website.

Describing his research as ‘a testament to his dedication and hard work, and an important contribution to the advancement of knowledge and innovation in Irish schools’, Dr Mary Kelly, Academic Dean at Hibernia College, said: “Dave’s work forms part of a wider collection of key research issues that permeate Irish education today, and which we are proud to showcase for the future benefit of teachers and students interested in that field”
