The South Carlow CFR are running the open evenings this September

South Carlow Community First Responders (CFR), a dedicated team of local volunteers from various backgrounds trained to attend specific emergency calls, is calling for new volunteers to join their life-saving team. Covering a 10km radius across South Carlow, the group responds to potential life-threatening situations, such as cardiac arrests, strokes, and other medical emergencies, providing crucial initial assistance in the vital minutes before an ambulance arrives.

The South Carlow CFR team plays an essential role in enhancing emergency response times, serving areas from St. Mullins in the south to Goresbridge in the north, and from Coppanagh on the west of Graignamanagh to Knockroe in the east. Within this radius, they cover communities including Borris, Ballymurphy, Glynn, Graignamanagh, Raheendonore, Rathanna, Skeoughvasteen, and many more.

To expand their team and ensure a rapid response in emergencies, South Carlow CFR is hosting two open evenings on 16th and 23rd September. These events provide an opportunity for local residents to meet the team, learn more about the vital role of a First Responder, and gain insights into the training and commitment involved.
Brian O’Farrell a member of South Carlow CFR since the very start said "Volunteering with South Carlow CFR is so much more than just attending calls – it’s about truly engaging with the community and giving back in a way that feels deeply meaningful. Every time I respond, I know I’m contributing to something bigger than myself, helping to make a real difference in people’s lives when it matters most. it’s a reminder that, together, we can be a lifeline for our neighbours. We are always eager to welcome new volunteers into our group – no matter your background or experience, there's a place for you here. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that, as a volunteer, you are part of something that genuinely strengthens our community."

The first of the evenings on 16th September in Graignamanagh will take place in the Scouts Den, R95 FX02 and this will be followed by the open evening in Borris Town Hall, R95 V29P on 23rd September. Registration is not required, everyone is welcome to come along at any stage in the evening between 7pm and 9pm, meet the team and hear about how they may get involved and help out in their local area.
