Winners from the competition
County Carlow came alive with festive spirit this holiday season as the #ShopLocalShopCarlow campaign delighted residents and visitors alike with its exciting competitions with two competitions. With over 1,937 entries pouring in, the campaign showcased the community’s enthusiasm for supporting local businesses.
Participants competed in three distinct competitions for a chance to win a €500 shopping spree at a location of their choice in County Carlow. Each competition represented one of the municipal districts — Carlow MD, Tullow MD, and Bagenalstown MD — with a prize for each district’s winner.

Cllr. Fergal Browne, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, expressed his gratitude to the participants, saying, “We were delighted to see such fantastic engagement from the community, with over 1,937 entries for this year’s competitions. This response highlights the strength of our community spirit and the importance of supporting our local retailers. Thank you to everyone who took part and made this initiative a success.”
Looking to the future, Cllr. Browne emphasized the council’s ongoing commitment, stating, “As we enter 2025, I encourage everyone to continue supporting local businesses. They are the backbone of our community, and by shopping local, we help to ensure their growth and sustainability.”
Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise at Carlow County Council, also extended his thanks: “We are incredibly grateful to our partners — County Carlow Chamber, Carlow Tourism, Bagenalstown Area Chamber of Commerce, and Develop Tullow — for their collaboration in this year’s competition. Together, we’ve created a wonderful experience for families and individuals alike. We look forward to building on this success with the introduction of a new Festive Family Experience Programme and the continuation of the Shop Local Shop Carlow initiative in 2025.”
